My Media Blog
December 9, 2009My Final Project Plan
November 16, 2009I will be describing my three different work experiences that I have had over the past ten years of my life for my final project. My first video will be about working in the restaurant atmosphere; particularly bartending. My second video will be about working in the world of cosmetics and being a make-up artist. My last video will be about being a student and how that will ultimately lead me to my career in public relations.
We the Media 3
November 16, 2009Everyone can make a difference through the media. The whole Wikipedia website is a source for many, which is a site ultimately created by the public. A blog can also really help people who are in unfortunate situations. Someone that was released from jail because of protest bloggers is an amazing thing. People can even raise money by blogging which derives from the trust between the blogger and their readers. The audience will make the decisions at the end of the day.
We have a variety of tools that we can implement through the media these days. Camera phones have become the social norm and can provide access to live media instantly. Technorate is a great way to sort blogs for us by category or interest. Tracking internet users and bloggers is now a big part of our present and future.
We don’t need spin or trolls in our lives. There are people out there that go out of their way to lie and distort the truth in the blog world. With special effects, Photoshop, and other kinds of editing techniques, we really need to keep are eyes open. It’s also important to pay attention to the source of what we read. It’s up to us to take the media in and sift through it wisely.
We the Media 2
November 16, 2009Blogging and the truth, what more do we need. In this day and age, we can really use both of these mediums to our advantage. Telling the truth and/or linking others to the truth is only going to make everyone’s lives easier and better at the end of the day. Our creative and professional lives can only benefit from integrating these smart factors into them; truth and blogs.
It’s quite amazing how much times have changed in terms of technology at home. Politics are voiced through outlets all over the world. Perhaps we will even vote from home someday. Schwarzenegger having a recall campaign that started online is a great example of how the public has actual control over elections to some degree. ” Bush in 30 seconds” is a great example of how Big Media is now also in the hands of everyday people. We can blog anything now and make a difference by doing so.
“Every citizen’s a reporter”, according to Oh Yeon Ho. The audience really does have a lot to say, but there will always be a place for professional journalists. A journalists job is ultimately made easier and a bit more well rounded when allowing their readers to respond. The public doesn’t realize how much power they actually have in the media. This chapter beautifully demonstrates how we, the public, can become the media.
Did you know? 2.0
October 29, 2009This was a very entertaining video that I think everyone should see. It is definitely an eye opener. It did leave me feeling a bit pessimistic about our future, but only because I am still learning myself. It is almost threatening to realize that students and even kids out there understand technology better than myself. I plan to learn as much as I can, however younger students have a powerful advantage over me for the future job opportunity. This video reminded me of the utter importance it is to stay on top of new technology and new media for the rest of my life….or else.
The world of technology is growing at an unbelievably fast rate. I was in shock when I actually saw the real statistics of our world. I also had no idea that there are 2 million more graduating college students than in the United States. Also, the idea that China will be the number one English-speaking country in our somewhat near future is sad and scary to me. The whole world I knew when I was a kid is already so different from how it is now, which leaves me speechless and nervous. I understand change is good, but change at this speed is something I’m not sure of.
I’m also not sure of what kind of world we will all be living in in twenty years or fifty years, but it will definitely be a very different world. As long as we the people do not let technology take over and only allow it to help us in our everyday lives than I think we’ll be okay. We may not be able to control what actually happens in the future, but we can definitely stay as knowledgable as possible and always keep learning.
We the Media 1
October 5, 2009We the Media by Dan Gilmore describes how all forms of technology and journalism has been brought together over the years. It’s quite amazing how far we have come since Thomas Paine and America Online. A gradual build in the beginning , then motivated technology/journalist experts decided to put us all on a roller coaster; one that gets faster everyday. It’s also astounding to realize that a catastrophic day such as 9/11 brought new media to the next level; all over the world.
Journalism has gone from one-to-many and one-to-one to many-to-many. We communicate on a whole other level now; or at least it’s now definitely an option. The tools that are available and the ever expanding advanced technology that streams in on a regular basis is growing rapidly. Everyone can essentially be their own journalist and broadcast what they want; it’s all about blogging.
Though we are all capable of dishing out our own media these days, that doesnt mean it’s all the truth. It’s up to us to decide whether Big Media is everything, which time has pointed out to us that it is not. There is a plethora of information out there and the public has their own ways to capture it. We have cameras on our phones and blogging now; so the information is out there, we just have to sift through it all for the truth.
My first Blog ever!!!!!
September 16, 2009Hi everyone. My name is Tamra and this is my first time blogging. I’m internet savvy, but not in tuned with blogging or podcasts. So I guess this class will help me out with all that and I’ll become a happy blogger someday. definitely excited about learning how to acquire some new skills in this class.
This is my first semester at SJSU and love it so far, except the budget cuts of course. I am studying Public Relations and am very impressed with my teachers so far; they’re great. I also think the campus is absolutely beautiful and the variety of food I can get at when I’m feelin rumbly in my tumbly.
I have been to four city colleges and have been looking forward to coming here or to a four year since day one; so in essence I’m livin’ the dream. I will hopefully finish in two to three years if all goes well. Balancing work, school, and living on my own has always been a challenge, but now I know I can handle anything. The great thing about college is that you learn from the classroom and gain life experiences from the real world through your journey.
