We the Media 3

November 12, 2009

The example given in the beginning of Ch. 7 of the Iraqi blogger who posted about the protests going on in Iraqi demonstrate how useful his information is to some people in the world. Personally I would love to hear a first hand account of the news rather than my local news reporter discussing an issue he is relaying from a Western journalist who doesn’t have a true first hand account. Reading from a first hand account of someone actually witnessing the scene and being affected by the event is much more interesting to me, but not always credible.

In our country we are able to write in blogs and truly express our ideas without fear of imprisonment or death thanks to our right to free speech. This is not always the case in the world where free speech doesn’t exist. Our free speech too may become in danger.

Another rising piece of technology is the Wiki, which allows anyone on the internet to edit the current wiki page. For example, most of you know that Wikipedia is a Wiki that is able to be edited by any person yet we still put our trust to the majority of articles found on Wikipedia. Why do we do this knowing that online vandals are capable of changing the information to become incorrect or biased which change our thoughts? What most people don’t know is that there are good people out there that will make the corrections to the articles soon after the articles have become defaced by these online vandals which is a waste of time for the vandals to change the articles in the first place.

Yesterday’s expensive technology is becoming more and more affordable to people today. In the past musicians had to shell out serious cash to use expensive recording studios to record their audio tracks. Now a days more and more musicians are becoming more literate to computer editing software such as Garage Band, Logic Studio, Pro Tools LE, Cubase, and other entry level recording software programs along with a few basic hardware accessories to record high quality tracks cutting the middle man to save themselves money for other needs as a musician. This is the same case for those who are interested in filming in digital. Higher quality cameras and editing software give these artists the tools that those in the past would dream about to create films with better transitions and special effects using affordable software on their computers.

Final Project Plan

November 12, 2009

For my final project I will be creating three videos. I decided to use iMovie HD to create and edit these (3) part segment videos because of the ease of use and seamless integration with the itunes software. My overall theme for these videos will revolve around High Definition Media.

The first video will demonstrate the basics of what High Definition resolution is and where it can be found.

The Second Video will demonstrate the various sources and cables required to reach a high definition signal.

The Final video will demonstrate how to receive a high definition signal to your high definition television from various sources (Xbox, PS3, Cable box, Antenna) and the requirements to reach a high definition signal.

Did You Know 2.0

October 8, 2009

This very informative video has opened my eyes to a world that is changing at lightning speeds. Countries like China who have a 100% English literacy rate for colllege educated students show how hard working people can really be. It also makes us question our own selves where a huge population living in the United States can’t even speak English.

The Power of the internet and how it had reached a larger target audience in less time than the tv and radio shows how fast technology today is changing the way we all live our lives. Texting, web searching, social networking websites, and You Tube are all exploding in the number of users each second. When I heard that if Myspace were a country, it would be the 8th largest in the world I nearly fliped out. Imagine the power Myspace holds with that many users. The p0tential to advertise on their website and number of viewers. It simply boogles the mind.

Super computers in the year 2013 will probably exceed the human brain is just more proof that technology is moving faster than ever before. The potential technology such as the computer and the internet has on our world is such a powerful force that it will control the way we live. Our world will revolve around this technology without a choice.

We need to prepare our future generation with the education that will prepare them for the countless number of jobs that will develop due to upcoming technologies. Jobs that don’t even exist yet has to be exercised with our coming generation  because technology doesn’t take breaks.

We the Media 1

September 24, 2009

The first three chapters of We the Media are basically review of my knowledge of the mass media and technologies of the internet. Computers these days are capable of transmitting information at lighting speeds. News is up to the minute and different ways of networking including Person to Person sharing is available with all the new technolgies out. The problem with the information found on the internet is that it is not necessarily from a credible source. We learn to trust major websites based on their reputations but websites such as wikipedia.com, anyone including you or me are able to edit information shared which is a problem we face due to the people using the internet. Technology takes control of our lives and we rely on it for information and communication.  The power of television, radio, and cable has changed the way of mass media communication, but the internet has created a whole new way of communication and the mass media.  With the power of blogs, HTML. P2p, our world is changing at the speed of light in both postive and negative ways and it is here to stay.

All about Steve!!!

August 30, 2009

My name is Steve Yang and I am a  senior majoring in advertising at San Jose State University. During my free time I enjoy going out with my friend’s to parties, playing live shows with my band,  attending sporting events (especially the San Jose Sharks), fixing electronics, and watching television. Some of my favorite TV shows include: Entourage, Prison Break, 24, Grey’s Anatomy, Lost, The Office, Heroes, South Park, Weeds, Jon and Kate plus 8, Three Sheets, and much much more.

I consider music to be one of my biggest passions in life. I love going to live rock concerts, meeting famous band’s, and listening to new and different types of music.

My goal is to one day graduate from SJSU with a degree in advertising so I can pursue a career in a field I have a strong passion for and by taking MCOM 63 I am one step closer.
