We the Media 1

November 25, 2009

Journalism has evolved its medium of news sharing over the last several decades, especially within the past few years with the accessibility of the internet. One big step in this evolution is the creation of CNN. This approach to present news at all hours of the day acted as a catalyst that triggered the way we consume news today. Many people have taken advantage of this convenience, indirectly demanding news material around the clock from journalists.

The mass availability of the internet has helped accelerate the consumption of news media online. News stories go into more detail on newspaper websites as more in-depth video and photo content are shared with readers. With all this material available online for free, newspapers are losing more subscribers everyday — giving fewer reasons why advertisers should invest dollars in placing ads in a paper that fewer readers will see. Although this may be discouraging to newspapers, this has significantly given journalists the opportunity to advance the multimedia content online for readers to increase their experience with consuming news. The next several years will no doubt see changes in the publishing world as people everywhere in the business continue to find ways to increase readership and at the same time profitable opportunities to keep afloat.
